Although Philips smartphones continue to be launched on the market, not many arrive in Europe. Since the mobile division of the Dutch company was acquired by China Electronics Corporation many years ago, Philips smartphones have stopped being rolled out globally.

The latest addition to the Philips smartphones portfolio is the Xenium V787, and it's been recently launched in Romania. The mid-range handset has been priced quite high for what it has to offer regarding specs.

Philips Xenium V787 will be available at all major retailers across the country for around $325 (€290) off contract. At least one carrier (Digi Mobil) will offer the smartphone as well.

Moving on to specs, the main selling point of the Xenium V787 is the huge 5,000 mAh battery, which can be used as a power bank to charge other devices while on the move.

China Electronics Corp. made a habit of launching mid-range smartphones with massive batteries, which has now become the main feature differentiating Philips handsets.

Main camera with some advanced features, decent display

The Xenium V787 ships with Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system right out of the box, and we doubt there will be an Android 6.0 Marshmallow update released in the future.

It also sports a decent 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution and features Asahi Glass DragonTrail 2 coating for extra protection.

Hardware-wise, Philips Xenium V787 packs a 64-bit 1.3GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6753 processor, coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage that can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot.

At the back, the smartphone features a 13-megapixel photo snapper with phase detection autofocus, LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording while in the front there's a secondary 5-megapixel selfie camera.

It comes with both 4G LTE and dual-SIM support, as well as other connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB 2.0 and GPS with AGPS.

According to the Chinese OEM, Philips Xenium V787's massive 5,000 mAh battery should provide up to 24 hours of talk time or up to 36 days in standby mode.
