Huawei Announces MWC 2016 Press Event

With Mobile World Congress coming up in a few short weeks, smartphone manufacturers are quickly putting together their plans and press events for the first big mobile trade show of the year. Mobile World Congress takes place in Barcelona, Spain from February 22nd through the 25th. But as normal, all of the press events announcing new products take place the day before, on February 21st. And Huawei is joining everyone else on that day. Huawei has started sending out invites to their own press event that is scheduled for the 21st. No time has been given just yet, however for those in the US interested in seeing what Huawei has in store, it’ll likely be an early morning show due to the time difference (6 hours ahead of the east coast, and 9 hours ahead of the west coast).

There’s no telling what Huawei is going to announce at this press event, but we likely won’t see the Huawei P9 announced. Lately, Huawei has been opting for a separate event for their P-series smartphones, with the P8 being announced in London last year. And with the Mate 8 being announced at CES earlier this month, we could be seeing some new tablets or wearables from them. Or the Chinese manufacturer could come out and surprise us with something we weren’t expecting. At last year’s event the company announced the Huawei Watch, which quickly stole the show, and was released in the fall, after a few revisions.

Huawei, Sony, LG and Samsung are all slated to have events on February 21st. HTC normally joins that crew, but so far there’s no word on what HTC is planning for Mobile World Congress this year. They may opt to announce the HTC One M10 later on, or at a separate event, which is what they did with the HTC One M8 in 2014. With February 21st being a Sunday, it’s going to be a pretty busy Sunday with all sorts of flagships being announced. Our favorite time of the year. We will be in Barcelona for the show, so make sure you keep it locked to Android Headlines for all of the details.
