NVIDIA is a well-known brand when it comes to gamers. NVIDIA builds some of the best, if not the best, graphics chips for desktops and laptops. However, they do also create some amazing mobile processors in their Tegra lineup. Although, in the past few years, many companies have been sticking to either Qualcomm or MediaTek for their products, leaving NVIDIA’s Tegra processors out in the cold. But that means that their SHIELD products have the best mobile gaming processors available. NVIDIA has released a few SHIELD tablets, as well as a SHIELD TV (running on the Android TV platform), and it looks like a new SHIELD tablet is on the way.

A new NVIDIA tablet passed through the FCC on July 15th, and it sports the model number P2523. This FCC filing doesn’t reveal a whole lot about the new device, but it does show that it’ll measure 8.6 x 4.8 x 0.3 inches, which means that it’ll sport a 8-inch display and have slightly smaller bezels, when compared to its predecessor. It will also support both 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands for WiFi, meaning that it can take advantage of the fastest WiFi networks around. It’ll also weigh in at about 349g. Speculation is running wild right now, as you’d expect. Many are expecting the device to sport a QHD or 2K display, with 4GB of RAM inside, and a 6800mAh battery. Additionally, it’s said to support a USB Type-C port. Many are also expecting it to have some sort of virtual reality feature, and it could even support Google’s Daydream, which set to come out later this year – the Nexus 6P and ZTE Axon 7 are already supported.

Release date for this upcoming tablet is still up in the air, but given the lack of rumors and leaks about the device, it’ll likely come out either in the fourth quarter of this year, or just after the new year. If NVIDIA were smart, they would release it in time for the holiday season, especially given the fact that the last SHIELD tablet, the SHIELD K1 launched with a $199 price point. Making it a very good purchase for anyone not wanting to spend much on a tablet.
