The Lenovo Ideapad 720S will be one of the first notebooks shipping with the GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q.

Nvidia's energy-efficient Max-Q series will now encompass the GTX 1050 and GTX 1050 Ti whereas existing models were limited to the GTX 1060 Max-Q, GTX 1070 Max-Q, and GTX 1080 Max-Q. The news comes directly from Nvidia at CES 2018 as well as the latest Linux display driver (v384.111) explicitly detailing support for the GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q.

Like most of Nvidia's budget to mainstream GPUs, the manufacturer will not be making any big announcements or detailed press releases to celebrate the launch of the 1050 Max-Q and 1050 Ti Max-Q. We can, however, deduce clock rates and other core specifications for the new models. Expect the 1050 Max-Q and 1050 Ti Max-Q to perform about 10 to 15 percent slower than the standard 1050 and 1050 Ti, respectively, given what we've seen on the existing 1060 Max-Q, 1070 Max-Q, and 1080 Max-Q. TDP will likely range between 34 W to 46 W with the intent to integrate the new GPUs onto mainstream thin-and-light notebooks.

According to Nvidia, the Lenovo Yoga 720S should be coming "soon" with the 1050 Ti Max-Q. The 720 series is already available in two screen sizes (14-inch and 15-inch) with GeForce MX150 and GTX 1050 options depending on the SKU. The new 1050 Max-Q series will likely perform somewhere in between these two GPUs to be slightly slower than the new 65 W Kaby Lake-G i7 series with the integrated Vega M GL GPU. Hopefully these new Max-Q notebooks will actually follow the fan noise limit when gaming this time around.
