Company official revealed some of the plans in a conference call

As many of you might recall, back in November Samsung announced its strategy for 2014 will have tablets at its core. Now a Samsung official reveals the company is looking to create a “new tablet category” this year.

Sammy believes the smartphone market has become overly saturated (not that the tablet one isn't) and sees the tablet sector as a lofty place for innovation. At CES 2014, the Korean tech giant pulled the veil off four new high-end tablets with amazing displays and impressive specifications.

And Samsung is not planning to stop here. Not by a long shot. Earlier today, the company held a conference call during which, it revealed its sales figures for the 4th quarter of 2013. Even though we saw a decline in numbers compared to last year, Samsung is still confident consumers are dying to get their hands on its tablets.

But the most interesting part comes now. During the conference Samsung’s Executive Director Hyunjoon Kim revealed some details about the company’s future plans in the tablet department.

Apparently, Sammy wants to create “a new tablet category,” says ZDNet. That sounds pretty bold and full of promise, but it turns out Kim means the company plans to design 20-inch “high resolution” display tablets for business users.

That’s not exactly news, as Panasonic’s Toughpad line is here to prove. Nevertheless, Panasonic’s offers are not so wide-spread in North America and here’s where Sammy’s marketing power and distribution chains come in. Samsung might be the first company to actually make these massive devices main stream.

Furthermore, Samsung has admitted it will continue to create several Galaxy Tab “spin-offs” so the Galaxy TabPRO might be just the beginning.

Bearing that in mind, we just saw three new Sammy slates make an appearance on import/export site Zauba revealing they have been sent to India for testing.
