Acer has now announced two new Chrome OS devices in the form a new Chromebook and and a new Chromebox, the Acer Chromebook 11 C732 and the Acer Chromebox CXI3. Both of which are being positioned as ideal option for those in the education (or commercial) sector.
One of the big selling points with the Acer Chromebook 11 C732 is its durability as this Chromebook features IP41 and MIL-STD 810G ratings for protection against drops and spills. Besides it’s more rugged design, this is a Chromebook equipped with two USB Type-C ports, and a battery that is rated to last up to 12 hours on a single charge. The Chromebook 11 C732 will be available in two main versions (touch IPS display and non-touch) with each model also available in different RAM and storage configurations. For example, both versions will offer up to 8GB RAM and will differ in terms of storage, with the touch version available in 32 and 64GB variants, and the non-touch version available in 16GB, 32GB or 64GB storage options. The Chromebook 11 C732 is expected to become available in the US in March and will be priced at $299.99 for the baseline model. The price of the non-touch based version will start at $279.99 and is expected around the same time. Both versions are also expected to become available in EMEA, during April, and starting from €329.
As with all Chromeboxes, the new Acer Chromebox CXI3 is designed more for stationary usage by offering consumers a desktop-like experience, albeit one that is powered by Chrome OS. However, unlike some of the other box options this one is specifically being aimed at the education and commercial markets. The Chromebox CXI3 also supports USB Type-C connectivity (as well as Type-A), and will be powered by 8th Gen Intel Core processors. Additional features include a microSD card reader, a HDMI port, a Gigabit Ethernet port, and support for 2×2 MIMO 802.11ac Wi-Fi wireless and Bluetooth 4.2 LE. Unlike the Chromebook 11 C732, Acer has opted to not provide firm details on when the Chromebox CXI3 will become available, where it will be available, or at what price. Instead, confirming these details will be announced on a region-by-region basis and closer to the time.
