HP says it will be the smallest and lightest 14-inch business convertible with a quad-core processor and also the world's first with gigabit 4G LTE for its class. The convertible is set to directly supplant the Elitebook Folio 1040 G4 with many new features inspired by the successful 13.3-inch EliteBook x360 1030 G1.

HP is turning everything x360 these days ever since the original Spectre x360 made a splash in 2015. The business-oriented EliteBook x360 1040 G5 may be the latest convertible in the long line of x360 laptops, but it will actually be the first 14-inch EliteBook to sport 360-degree hinges.

When compared to the last generation EliteBook 1040 G4, the EliteBook x360 1040 G5 is 10 percent smaller in length and width with 41 percent smaller side bezels and a 31 percent thinner chin. The super-bright 700-nit anti-glare etched glass FHD touchscreen that made the EliteBook x360 1030 G1 so good is back for this 14-inch variant. There will also be 500-nit 4K UHD options which would still be brighter than the displays on most consumer Ultrabooks. Sure View will be available once again to protect owners from "visual hacking" when working in public spaces.

As for the internals, HP will be sticking with Kaby Lake-R options ranging from the Core i5-8250U up to the i7-8650U with vPro enabled. In comparison, the recently revealed 2018 Spectre x360 13 and Spectre x360 15 will be using newer Whiskey Lake CPUs that could potentially offer faster performance. WAN and GPS will be optional up to the Intel XMM 7560 for compatibility with CAT 16 LTE gigabit speeds.

The EliteBook x360 1040 G5 follows on the footsteps of the successful EliteBook x360 1030 G1 that we lauded earlier this year. Exact prices and availability have not been announced at this time. Until then, check out the official spec sheet below for a full rundown on the machine and see our full review on the Elitebook 1040 G4 here.
