The first benchmark of a 'Coffee Lake' powered MacBook Pro has been spotted online. It was over 12 months ago that Apple last refereshed the MacBook Pro line with Intel's 'Kaby Lake' CPUs.

Although Windows 10 notebooks running Intel's 8th Gen chips have been on the market for months, Apple is still to release updated MacBooks with 'Coffee Lake' chips. The appearance of a Geekbench result for a MacBookPro15,2 could indicate it is nearing shipment of the long-awaited update, although there is still no sign the company has addressed its keyboard woes. When it does ship, customers will be equally interested in the silicon as well as whether Apple has also updated its keyboard.

As for the fundamental design of the next-generation of MacBook Pros, no one is expecting Apple to give the models any design tweaks. The purported MacBook Pro model tested shows an 8th Gen Core i7-8559U clocked at 2.7GHz with Turbo Boost up to 4.5GHz. The bump in processor families, however, should yield much better multi-core performance, if not advances in single-core speeds. The MacBook Pro in question posted a single-core result of 4448 and 16607 in the multi-core test. This compares with a single-core score of 4606 and 9553 for the outgoing 'Kaby Lake' Core i7-7820HQ.

Apple faithful will probably have to wait at least another 12 months before we see a MacBook Pro model that offers support for any more than 16 GB of RAM. With any luck, however, we might see the first 13-inch MacBook Pro models to feature Intel's 8th Gen Core i7-8550U quad-core chip as a high-end offering. Perhaps more importantly, let's hope that one reason for its delay is that Apple has developed a third-generation butterfly keyboard mechanism, or replaced it with something entirely more reliable.
